Force Field

This green yellow and vanilla tray has flowing lines reminiscent of a magnetic force field.

This rectangular tray was created using the “raking” process, which involves manipulating the glass while it is in the kiln.

First, Karla cut almost a hundred 1/4″ wide strips of glass and then arranged them on edge in the kiln.  The kiln was then heated to fusing temperature (~1400 F) and then Karla opened the kiln and drew a metal rod across the surface of the molten glass.

The result is sure pretty…  But don’t try this at home!

Form: Shallow rectangular tray

Technique: Strip cut, raked during fusing, cold-worked and slumped
